Palermo – From April 26, nursery schools, nursery schools, elementary schools and middle schools in attendance at 100 percent until the end of the school year. High schools with activities in attendance from 50 to 100 percent based on the “color” of the territory. This is specified in a circular signed by the Regional Councilor for Education and Vocational Training, Roberto Lagalla, regarding the opening of schools of all levels in the Sicilian Region. Second grade secondary school: For high schools, however, the activity in presence varies according to the classification of the risk on the territory. In the “yellow” or “orange” areas, the presence of at least 70 percent of the school population is foreseen, up to a maximum of 100 percent. For Sicily up to 30 April, regardless of the “orange” or “yellow” risk areas, high schools can adopt lower attendance percentages than the percentage between 70 and 100 percent, but without falling below below 50 percent. From May 3rd, face-to-face lessons will be able to reach 70-100 percent attendance rate as envisaged nationwide. These percentages must also take into account pupils with disabilities or special educational needs (Bes).

In the case of a “red zone”, the percentage of students admitted to high schools in Sicily will usually be 50 per cent. The council circular, with respect to face-to-face lessons, recommends that institutions take into account, as a matter of priority, the needs of students who will face the exams or who require special training needs. School managers will have to adopt organizational choices based on the percentages of pupils to be admitted in attendance and may, upon authorization, limit the time duration of individual lessons. Enhancement of monitoring: The Department for Health Activities and Epidemiological Observatory will give provisions to the Asps to enhance anti-Covid screening among the school population. Safety: Finally, with the circular, the commissioner Lagalla invites school administrators to enforce the usual safety rules: spacing, use of masks (better if ffp2), monitoring of air quality and sanitizing of the environments.
