Covid, infections on the rise among hospitalized in Turin: “We suspend visits from relatives”

by admin

The growing infections bring the calendar back a year in Piedmontese hospitals. Città della Salute has suspended, as a precaution, the visits of relatives to patients in its hospitals. A temporary measure, then applied to the Molinette, the Cto, the Sant’Anna and the Regina Margherita.

The decision was dictated by the fact that there were four patients admitted to Molinette in various wards who, after a first negative swab, then tested positive subsequently. These are some patients who entered negative with a fever but then became positivized and of these four one was then sent home and followed at home because he did not need hospitalization.

An inevitable situation, they let the hospital know, because cases are on the rise and the virus foresees a period of latency but one cannot imagine a preventive isolation for all those who arrive in the emergency room. Cases that are also occurring in other hospitals of the various Asl. “A temporary closure for visitors has been arranged. Caregivers and special situations, on the other hand, are protected. A temporary precautionary measure to ensure maximum safety for hospitalized patients. A few days and if all goes well we will restore ”, explains Giovanni La Valle, medical director of the University Hospital of the City of Health and Science of Turin.

The decision came in agreement with the Dirmei, the inter-company department that operates on the emergency and cases where the presence of caregivers or any special cases that are evaluated by the director and coordinator are excluded, for example in cases of terminally ill patients. . “Obviously, if infections increase, containment measures increase and therefore more attention is paid to those who attend hospitals. It is understandable that the safety of patients must be protected first of all and then of the operators. And in any case, they are not total closures », comments Carlo Picco, general manager of the ASL City of Turin.

The alert for the Omicron variant is also raised, although there are currently no cases in the region. “We are certainly monitoring the situation and there is a control plan at the airport that is always coordinated by Dirmei,” explains Picco. And he adds: «The infections are increasing but in Turin there are still about 70 out of 100 thousand inhabitants. Admissions have also risen but not to a worrying level. In a month and a half, for intensive care, we went from an average of 22 to 30 but there is no alarm. We are far from the situation of last year ».
