SASSARI. “In the emergency room we have activated 10 beds for the administration of monoclonal antibodies, the new antiviral therapy to immediately block the evolution of the disease”: Franco Bandiera, health director of the Aou of Sassari announces it. In a note, the Aou explains what the hospitalization situation is: infections and consequently also hospitalizations are increasing rapidly, the two variants Omicron and Delta are present but Omicron is the most contagious and prevalent one with 75% of infections.

There are 40 positive people in the emergency room, of which 25 need hospitalization. At the moment the active departments for the management of the covid are the infectious disease ward with ordinary hospitalization which is now saturated with its 14 beds, the infectious disease intensive sub ward (Pneumocovid) where patients are assisted with non-invasive ventilation and where 19 beds are occupied. Also there post-operative intensive care it has been partially converted into a covid area with 4 dedicated seats, although in normal conditions it is used to accommodate patients who have undergone complex surgery.

Again: “The increase in hospitalizations – continues Bandiera – made it necessary yesterday 11 January 2022 also the opening to covid patients of the complex structure of Pneumology which has a total of 28 beds, 10 of which are free. A department that manages both ordinary and sub-intensive pathologies at the same time “,

«Soon we will be able to reopen the T30, the intensive care unit equipped with 30 workstations – says Antonio Spano, general manager of the Aou in Sassari – We have set up an intensive therapy that will be able to manage both covid and non-covid patients in different environments at the same time. It was planned to restructure it and start the accreditation process during last summer, but unfortunately the company had to postpone the work due to the impossibility of acquiring the necessary materials. At the end of the works there will be a total of 23 workstations and we will be able to accommodate both covid and non-covid patients “.
