Crime of Orune, an attempt to defend himself then the fatal stab wounds

by admin

The autopsy on the killed farmer confirms: outbreak of anger, perhaps two killers. At least ten slashes: the answer to a request for clarification from the victim?

ORUNE. The investigative mosaic of the murder of Mauro Antonio Carai is enriched by the tiles coming from the autopsy exam. The anatomopathologist Vindice Mingioni did it yesterday at San Francesco di Nuoro; there were also the investigating magistrate, the deputy prosecutor of the Republic Riccardo Belfiori, and the commander of the investigative unit of the Carabinieri of Nuoro, Major Michele Cappa.

If there are no decisive testimonies about the murder of the 74-year-old farmer, so far, the tortured body of the victim will be able to tell it instead. How many stab wounds were inflicted on him (a high number, it seems at least ten), from what position: the reconstruction on the basis of which at least two people participated in the murder would become more and more consistent. An unpremeditated killing, in all probability, given that the usual behavior of the farmer, marked by an almost granite everyday life, house-country-house, made it a very easy target for anyone who wanted to settle accounts according to the classic script of the ambush to shot. Instead, the stabbing breaks the mold. Mauro Antonio Carai had his cattle in the municipal land of Sant’Efisio, where thefts and other country threats are not uncommon; it is not excluded that it has suffered some wrong, and that it has identified the author or the presumed one. Or, again, that someone has pointed it out to him, in this immense territory that knows how to camouflage its visitors well. The elderly farmer could have crossed the alleged responsible, or the alleged, Friday night, along the road that leads to 389. As is the custom, a sign to stop the other car, get off and talk to each other like that, man to man. Then something went wrong, it degenerated to the point of stab wounds.

Those who knew him remember his robust build. The photo of his youth, practically the only one available for a man distant geological eras from social media and visual exposure, portrays him as a strong man. Impossible to think that he did not oppose the attack, that he did not try to defend himself: this too will say, the results of the autopsy.

For the rest, everything is gone: attackers, murder weapon. Nor is anything known about the latest calls made by Carai. In these hours the carabinieri of Nuoro and Bitti, with their colleagues from Orune, have tried to fathom the breeder’s knowledge. To know if he had any worries, even though his whole conduct did not make it clear at all. The very fact that he went quietly to the countryside, where he was helped by his son Giovanni (the same who later discovered his body), testifies to the fact that he was serene. He wasn’t armed. The son went to look for him on Friday night, due to the normal concern one has towards an elderly parent, engaged in a strenuous activity in the countryside. He would never have thought of finding his father in a pool of blood, spilled out of the car.

This morning, at 11, Mauro Antonio Carai will return to Orune, where the parish priest Don Michele Muledda will celebrate the funeral in the parish church of Santa Maria Maggiore. On Sunday, at the Mass for the Blessed Virgin of Carmel, the priest himself had launched the appeal to the murderer. “Come out into the open, admit your gesture.” An invitation that has fallen on deaf ears, at least for now. It really takes a stretch of the imagination to think it will be harvested.
