On July 15, the U.S. State Department announced Sherman’s Asian itinerary without China. Why is the CCP eager to meet with senior Americans?

U.S. “privately” hardline two sides have no consensus

For the CCP, these are either “highly sensitive” or “red lines” drawn by it. Sherman mentioned them all at once and criticized the CCP for “undermining the rules-based international order.” The CCP is likely to be frustrated because of this.
There are two other points worth noting. First, the statement said that these issues were raised by Sherman “privately”, but they were all listed in the statement. Tang Jingyuan said that Sherman’s visit to China was in a different context from the talks in Alaska.
