Main round winners Fischtown Pinguins suffered their first defeat in the final series of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) on Friday evening in game two against the Eisbären Berlin. Bremerhaven had to admit defeat in the capital with 3:5 (0:1, 3:3, 0:1). After victories in the final series the score is now 1:1.

Record champions Eisbären Berlin have returned to the play-off final of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL). The North Germans, who eliminated defending champions EHC Munich in the semi-finals, suffered only their second defeat in the play-offs this season. In front of 14,200 spectators in the sold-out arena at Ostbahnhof, national player Leonhard Pföderl gave the Eisbären the lead (19th). When a penalty was called against the guests, Blaine Byron (25th) increased the score to 2-0, while Vice World Champion Marcel Noebels prepared both goals. Captain Jan Urbas, top scorer in the main round, shortened Bremerhaven’s margin to 1:2 (29th). But then Noebels shone again with a strong pass into the slot, again scored by Pföderl (30th).

Penguins’ joy at 3:3 equalizer only lasts for a short time

Urbas responded with the first power play goal for Bremerhaven in the final series (32nd), his Slovenian striker colleague Ziga Jeglic equalized a little later to make it 3-3 (35th). Defender Müller (39th) ensured that the Eisbären still went into the final third with a lead. Müller made the final score 5-3 in the 47th minute. Bremerhaven tried everything again as the game progressed, but couldn’t get any closer.
