In Nanjing, a city of 9.3 million people, residents underwent three rounds of virus testing within two weeks. The vaccination rate in mainland China is close to 60%, which is among the highest in the world. However, the Delta virus outbreak has caused outsiders to question the effectiveness of China’s domestic vaccine, because most of the infected people in Nanjing have received two vaccinations.
This Delta virus outbreak is the biggest challenge facing the CCP after the Wuhan epidemic, and it is also a resounding slap in the official propaganda of “anti-epidemic success.” In January last year, the authorities suddenly imposed stringent lockdown measures on Wuhan and other cities in Hubei Province. This Monday (August 2nd), the CCP claimed to have 99 cases of infection, of which 44 cases were asymptomatic. Later that day, another seven people were found infected in Wuhan and one in Beijing. Calculated by the number of cases, this is the largest outbreak since the outbreak in Hebei Province in January, when 2,000 people were infected.
