Democratic Party of Puerto Rico celebrates crowded vote for the presidency – NotiCel – The truth as it is – News from Puerto Rico – NOTICEL

The special election of the Democratic Party of Puerto Rico saw a higher turnout than expected, with more than 5,000 people casting their votes by midday. Both presidential candidates, Luis Dávila Pernas and Luis Javier Hernández, expressed their gratitude for the historic number of voters who participated in the election.

Dávila Pernas emphasized the importance of Puerto Ricans engaging in partisan politics at the national level, highlighting the growth of the statesmanship movement. On the other hand, Hernández noted that the Democratic Party is inclusive and open to all Puerto Ricans, not restricted to a single sector.

Former senator Eduardo Bhatia, however, criticized the election process, calling it chaotic and irregular. He raised concerns about long wait times, the lack of privacy in voting, and alleged favoritism towards certain voters by officials.

In response to Bhatia’s criticism, the electoral commissioner of the Democratic Party of Puerto Rico, Anthony Maceira, explained that internal processes do not allow for secret voting according to the party’s regulations. He invited Bhatia to address his complaints through the appropriate channels.

With voting closing at 1:00 pm, the results are expected to be announced after 6:00 pm following a manual counting process. The outcome of the election will determine the future leadership of the Democratic Party of Puerto Rico.
