Dismissals in Turin, backlash Acc

The 400 employees of the former Embraco will be left at home from July, blown to the Italcomp project and the Mel factory

BORGO VALBELLUNA. The confirmation of the dismissal for the 400 employees of the former Embraco of Turin which will start from 22 July at the end of the social safety nets, throws even darker clouds on the future of Mel’s Acc.

In fact, for the start of Italcomp, that is the national compressor pole, the government had always taken for granted that the Turin workers were on layoffs and not laid off, so much so that last Friday at the table with the Deputy Minister of Economic Development Alessandra Todde , the reassurance had arrived that there is the possibility of suspending the layoffs of these employees to engage the Covid cashier from 22 July. But the bankruptcy trustee of the former Embraco yesterday did not follow the words of the government, deciding to fire instead. This implies that Italcom will have to leave by July if these 400 workers are also to be admitted. But given the delay of the plan, what will happen to Acc which should be the focus of the project?

The news was received with great anguish and concern by the trade unions of Belluno and by the RSU. Because, as some of them pointed out, “the serious thing is that a few hours after the summit on Friday, the government was unable to hold the position, and therefore have the bankruptcy trustee turn around. And this has stunned us »; say the social partners. «From what happened in Turin we can only note the weakness of the government in this game that concerns us. And that is why we are now also afraid of the money that the deputy minister was committed to finding to keep us alive ».

It is also surprising that the minutes of the ministerial meeting have not yet been delivered to the parties where the promises of the Mise should appear in maintaining the two companies, Acc and formerly Embraco, and to start Italcomp. “We are worried, to say the least, about the funding that should come to us and that would guarantee us to survive until the compressor pole starts up. If they do not arrive within a few days, the Zumellese plant will have to close and then there will be no future for the workers “, say the unions who add:” In the next few hours we will have to understand if what happened in Turin is another technical accident of the government or if there is something more underneath. If the government did not have the political strength to close or even keep the former Embraco open, what will happen to Acc? All this dramatically opens up an area of ambiguity that makes us fear ».

The week that has just begun becomes even more decisive for Mel’s 315 employees. Unions and workers are waiting for what was promised at the Mise summit to become reality. “The government and the deputy minister Todde, as per the commitments made,” specifies the secretary of Fiom CGIL, Stefano Bona, “must send, by the hour, the minutes of the meeting to the trade unions in which we can see in black and white what are the commitments they intend to undertake. But we are also waiting for the text of the amendment that the same minister Giancarlo Giorgetti, as they anticipated, will present to article 37 of the Sostegni decree law. The amendment must provide for the possibility of immediately giving resources to the Acc. We want the government to make it clear whether or not they believe in this project ”.

The social partners now want to see the cards, “because it has already happened that the amendments announced have been presented completely different,” says Mauro Zuglian of the Fim. «At this point only what is written can be valid for us: we no longer trust words. We ask for the money immediately to guarantee a future for the Zumellese factory ».

“There is a surreal atmosphere here,” says Massimo Busetti of the RSU. “We work but with the awareness that everything can end”. But the social partners confirm that they do not intend to give up. –
