TREVISO. Doctors fleeing the retirement homes of the Marca, over 130 elderly guests to be reassigned to a caregiver. An obstacle course given that the shortage of white coats in the Treviso clinics in the area also reverberates in the service centers already tried by the shortage of nurses. The estimate is that in the course of 2021 about thirty doctors will leave the nursing homes and the staff will suffer even more.
«They are leaving by the dozen, a mixture of retirements and renunciations, without appeal. Since there are no substitute doctors »denounces Roberto Volpe, president of the regional Union of institutions for the elderly of Veneto (Uripa). «In Veneto the ranking with the assignments given by the healthcare companies to the doctors of the RSA is“ overwhelmed ”, not only are there no new colleagues, we even have difficulty in finding temporary replacements. Ulss 2 is doing everything to find doctors for nursing homes but there are none, most are attracted to professionally better situations than RSA. Added to this is the lack of foresight in the training of doctors at all levels »confirms Bruno Di Daniel, provincial president of Snami family doctors.
In recent weeks, five doctors from the RSA of Treviso have left their position or asked for a reduction in the maximum number of patients. At Umberto I di Montebelluna, accredited for 112 places for the non self-sufficient, Dr. Maria Iossa will cease her assignment at the beginning of July, leaving her 35 patients to be relocated, the structure has immediately started the investigations but without finding professionals. To resolve the stalemate, she was authorized to indicate trusted doctors or to make use of white coats in direct relationship with the structure.
At Tomitano and Boccassin of Motta di Livenza, Dr. Sergio Pelizzo left the post, leaving 45 guests “uncovered”, while at the Simonetti service center in Oderzo it was Dr. Carla Zanata of continuity of assistance who left, with 35 elderly people waiting for a new doctor. Also in this case, finding substitutes is difficult and the structures have been allowed to try to consult trusted doctors. Meanwhile, at Villa Prealpina in Cavaso del Tomba which boasts a capacity of 131 guests, two of its doctors, Giordano Dalle Carbonare and Ermenegildo Fabbio, asked to lower the “ceiling” of users followed to 55 for each, with the result that about twenty elderly people found themselves without care. Fortunately, in this case, Dr. Andrea Rossato, a family doctor who made himself available, took over and took charge of them.
The general situation is aggravated by the fact that young trainees, once enrolled in the specialization school, are forced to leave their position in the RSA without the possibility of readmission. “A paradox” comments Volpe who wrote a letter to the Veneto Region asking for a correction to the text. «The elderly have the right to be well cared for, but the Region hides it dust under the carpet and now the situation is dramatic ».
