Donnas is reborn with Sant’Orso, in 310 for the restart fair

DONNAS. The joy of being there, again in attendance, after the long pause of two years due to the pandemic, was palpable yesterday on the faces of the artisans of the millenary Donnas Wood fair. 310 people showed up for the appointment early in the old village squeezed between the Dora Baltea and the mountains. A village full of life, pleasantly unrecognizable compared to its silent everyday life, made up of a comings and goings of people, handshakes and smiles of those who, thanks to the fair, have returned to find each other. Because Sant’Orso is also and above all an opportunity to meet. The unprecedented spring version was liked and attracted several thousand people, while keeping away those not in possession of the super Green pass for the rules still in force until March 31, and among them also some artisans.

Success is full: “We are finally back in attendance and we can only say we are satisfied, there are so many people and the influx is flowing, allowing you to fully enjoy the banquets” comments Graziano Comola, president of the fair committee. Before entering the gut, the fair already offered the public many beautiful surprises in the school square: the benches of the ten sculpture schools present were placed here. Among these, that of Issogne, which debuted with a new teacher, Giuseppe Serra: “It is the first year that I follow the 21 students enrolled – he explains – who today also bring works started with my predecessor Franco Pinet”.

And it is a debut, this time for two, also for the sisters Luisa and Sonia Locatelli, from Donnas, who share two passions: one for trail running and one for hobby. Together they presented themselves in the non-traditional sector: «We create artistic objects that look more to the world of young people, using not only wood but also resins to create pendants, necklaces, colored key rings». And unpublished faces also meet later, continuing the visit in the village. This is the case of Cristina Follioley, 16, of Donnas, one of the youngest exhibitors of her and her at her absolute debut: «I’m happy, for me it’s the first time – she explains – she; I started making baskets and baskets in self-taught wicker then following a course in vannerie at the Institut Agricole in Aosta ». Alongside the very young, who ensure the precious continuity of the event over time, there are the great artists who make Donnas’ petite foire unique, waiting for the appointment in Aosta next weekend.

Impressive and a guarantee, the works signed by Giuseppe Binel and Guglielmo Pramotton, deans of Donnas. Poetic and perfect, like photographs, the bas-reliefs made by Sebastiano Yon, another Donnaziese that cannot be missed. Moving is the statue of the Madonna sculpted by Rino Collé of Issogne, master of soapstone; the wooden animals by Gianfranco Anzola, from Arnad, are full of pathos and almost real. The more traditional objects, revisited by the creativity of the artisans do not lose their charm starting with the carved sticks by Lorenzo Zorzini, from Saint-Vincent. And this is confirmed by the wooden utensils for the kitchen, the symbol of an even more alive than ever fair of yesteryear, made by Angelo Joly of Arnad: spoons, ladles, rolling pins, polenta sticks. The world of the home, and next to that of agriculture with benches, rakes, stairs, interact with the large sculptures in wood and stone, to compose the puzzle of a rediscovered Fair, stronger than adversity, ready to restart with the spirit of all time . –
