Drama in Geraci: Marta dies at 12 from leukemia, from her parents yes to organ donation

She would have turned 12 next August, but Marta was unable to defeat a fulminant leukemia. The parents, despite the painful pain, said ‘yes’ to organ donation. A story of excruciating pain and solidarity, of civilization and altruism, that of Antonio and Maria Antonietta Minutella, parents of Marta, of Geraci Siculo, a town in the Madonie, in the Palermo area.
“Due to leukemia – explains Tania Lazzaro, director of the resuscitation unit of the Children’s hospital, where the little girl was hospitalized last Saturday – it was not possible to remove the organs and this has exacerbated the pain of the parents even more. who hoped that the death of their daughter might at least serve to revive other children. Symbolically, however, they signed the donation consent form. This gives the idea of ​​the beauty of this family, which has rooted in itself the concept of gift ».
The entire community of Geraci Siculo, where Marta’s parents and sister live, gathered around the family. «Marta was a lively and sunny child – remembers the mayor Luigi Iuppa with emotion – on behalf of the whole community I thank the Minutella family for the lesson of life and humanity, for being, once again, a model for all of us. The message we get from this is that in the suffering caused by an atrocious and unjust bereavement, selfishness does not help us. In the name of Marta we will take care of spreading the culture of organ donation more and more to ensure that where a flower has been cut, a garden can grow ».
