Catania – The State Police arrested the Calabrian TA as he was held responsible for the crime of transporting and detaining drugs of the cocaine type. Specifically, personnel of the Mobile Squad – “Antidroga” Section, after an info-investigative activity, learned that on the night of May 14, a courier from Calabria would arrive in Catania aboard a white van with a huge load of cocaine destined for the Catania “market”.
From the early hours of the morning, a targeted service was therefore arranged at the San Gregorio motorway exit, at the A18 Messina – Catania exit. After a few hours of patient waiting, around 5 in the morning, the personnel in charge of observation proceeded to check a white Fiat Ducato van driving the arrested person.
In order to carry out a more accurate check, TA was accompanied to the offices of the Flying Squad in Catania. Hidden inside a load of fruit crates, 16 wrappers, so-called “loaves”, were found containing narcotic substance like cocaine for a total gross weight of about 18 kg. The drug, worth over 720,000 euros wholesale, placed on the market would have yielded an amount equal to around 2,000,000 euros.
