The Territorial Renewal Agency, ART, announced the termination of the contract for 48 PDET works in the Chocó subregion between the EGA-Escuela Galán Consortium and the Colombia Peace Fund

The first session of the Special Consultation Mechanism had the mayor of Quibdó, Rafael Bolaños, as a guest. The capital of Chocó is not PDET, but is part of the ZOMAC municipalities (Zones Most Affected by the Armed Conflict).

«As of February 2, 2024, there is no longer a contract with the Galán School. “I want to be clear, although the decision to terminate the contract responds to a request from the Chocó Special Consultation Mechanism, it is not that it was terminated because the MEC requested it, but because the Galán School failed to comply with its contractual purpose,” he stated. The contract, signed on February 6, 2020 for a value of fifteen billion pesos, had as its objective the execution of 48 projects in the municipalities of Bojayá (9), Condoto (6), Acandí (4), Medio Atrato (4 ), Murindó (4), Unguía (4), Medio San Juan (3), Nóvita (3), Litoral del San Juan (2), Istmina (1), and Sipí. To date, only 7 projects have been delivered, while the execution of 41 is paralyzed due to non-compliance by the EGA consortium.

It is expected to agree on a work plan between the ethnic communities, the ART and the Colombia in Peace Fund to find the legal tools that allow the unfinished works to be delivered to the communities for execution, subject to compliance with requirements.

At the same meeting, Delgado highlighted the commitment of the ART to the ethnic communities of the Chocó subregion and announced the regional coordination headed by Dr. Leycer Palacios Mosquera, which will allow better communication and progress in the region.

The event was attended by more than 70 delegates from Community Councils, Indigenous Reservations, international cooperation and officials from different coordinating entities in the implementation of Development Programs with a Territorial Approach – PDET.

Likewise, the presence of the mayor of Quibdó, Rafael Bolaños, was highlighted, who thanked the invitation to the event and met with the ART to review the progress of a project for the capital of Chocó that could be financed by the Works for Taxes mechanism.
