During the Spring Festival holiday, single-plate vehicles from Hong Kong and Macao “go north” and customs clearance at the Hot Bridge Port is busy

During the fourth day of the Lunar New Year, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge port witnessed a record number of inbound and outbound vehicles, according to Gongbei Customs statistics. A total of 18,400 vehicles crossed the port, including 17,900 passenger cars and 13,400 “northbound” Hong Kong and Macao single-plate vehicles. These numbers are the highest recorded since the opening of the bridge port.

The increase in traffic can be attributed to the new trend of Hong Kong and Macao residents driving single-plate vehicles “Hong Kong Cars Going North” and “Macao Cars Going North” to cross the border in and out of Guangdong to celebrate the Spring Festival. The holiday marks the first Spring Festival since the official implementation of the “Hong Kong Vehicles Going Northward” policy.

During the four days leading up to the Spring Festival, Gongbei Customs inspected and released a total of 60,000 inbound and outbound vehicles, marking a 2.7-time increase compared to the same period last year. Notably, 43,000 single-plate vehicles traveled north to Hong Kong and Macao, accounting for over 70% of the total traffic and representing a 71.4% increase compared to the previous year.

As the number of vehicles crossing the border increases, customs authorities remind passengers to abide by customs supervision regulations when entering and leaving the country. For those inquiring about customs clearance policies, they can call the 12360 customs hotline or follow the Gongbei Customs WeChat public account “Gongguan Micro Release” to obtain the latest policy information.

The surge in traffic during the Spring Festival holiday highlights the growing trend of residents from Hong Kong and Macao driving single-plate vehicles to cross the border. It also underscores the importance of adhering to customs regulations to ensure safe and efficient border crossings.
