Santa Giustina, the Suem helicopter intervened. Tilt traffic on highway 50
SANTA GIUSTINA. The elderly Santagiustinese injured around 10.30 today, Thursday 16 June, in a car accident in the Volpere, was transported by helicopter to the Belluno hospital. The man, born in 1947, was pedaling in the direction of Feltre on his pedal assisted bicycle, carrying a shopping bag, when he was overtaken by a truck traveling in the same direction. What exactly happened the carabinieri are trying to reconstruct: the man could have become unbalanced due to the movement of the air, swaying and losing his balance. In any case, the elderly man fell heavily on the asphalt together with his bicycle, hitting his head.
The truck driver himself, who noticed the cyclist’s fall and stopped immediately, and the passing motorists gave him first aid. The elder was conscious but had suffered serious trauma. The call to 118 thus made an ambulance leave from Santa Maria del Prato di Feltre, while in Pieve di Cadore also the Suem helicopter ambulance started its engines. The carabinieri of Trichiana, a patrol of the local police and the firefighters of Feltre also left for the Volpere.
The wounded man, stabilized and embarrassed by the doctors, with the help of the firefighters was taken across the street, to the square of a building a few meters from the point of the accident where the helicopter was able to land easily. While the carabinieri carried out the surveys and collected the first testimonies, the local police officers tried to dispose of the long queues created along the highway 50 due to the accident. Due to the intense traffic of the morning, the inconveniences were considerable for the circulation. At San Martino di Belluno the man underwent the CT scan and the first medications. However, his condition would not be worrying.
