Elio Vito has decided to leave Forza Italia and, at the same time, to no longer sit in Parliament. He had announced it and today the official decision has arrived. «Mr. President of the Chamber of Deputies, following my decision to leave Forza Italia, the party on whose lists I was elected, I resign from the parliamentary mandate. I hope that this decision will contribute to helping the young people of our country to regain a sense of trust in the institutions, in Parliament and more generally in politics ». This is what we read in a letter that Elio Vito sent to the President of the Chamber Roberto Fico.
The announcement of the possible resignation came yesterday, when the possibility of a support from CasaPound was hypothesized in Lucca, in Lucca, Forza Italia, Lega and Fdi in view of the run-off of June 26 of the municipal elections. “I have communicated to President Berlusconi that if Forza Italia in Lucca confirms the relationship with CasaPound, I will leave the party,” Vito said. Vito then recalled his dissent against Forza Italia’s position on the Zan bill against homophobia: «I hoped, I tried, I believed that a phase of confrontation and discussion was still possible, a change within the party. Instead, two other very serious things have happened that make it impossible for me to continue serving in FI. The first concerns Berlusconi’s assertions on the Russian aggression of Ukraine, the second – he says – is the appearance in Lucca for the ballot with extremist right-wing groups ».
