UDINE. The phenomenon of empty cradles also translates into a slow emptying of the classrooms. Also this year in the city enrollments are lost in the elementary and middle classes of the six inclusive of the city: 214 fewer than the school year 2020/2021. A counter-trend figure, however, can be seen in the maternal schools where the decline is almost nil: minus 3.
This is what emerges from the pre-enrollments collected by the municipal offices for the school year starting in September. Data that satisfy the municipal administration. For the mayor Pietro Fontanini: “The data on maternal enrollments is particularly encouraging, considering the generalized picture marked by a demographic decline”.

Overall, therefore, the members of the six comprehensive citizens decreased by 3.4% compared to the previous year. 6,238 children and young people are pre-registered to the six citizens. In two years we have lost 413 students from the 49 kindergartens, elementary and middle schools of the city: in the school year 2019/2020 they were attended by 6,651 pupils. Second and fourth comprehensive see the most consistent decrease, registering respectively –75 and – 63 members.
THE MATERNALS
As mentioned, a particularity distinguishes this year’s data: the drop in demand for places in public nursery schools has suffered a setback (pre-enrolled are 1,030 this year, enrollments were 1,033 last). The previous year, however, 75 children had “disappeared” from kindergartens.
THE ELEMENTARY
The drop in enrollment is particularly evident especially in elementary school. The children who will attend public primary schools are 166 fewer than last year (this year they are 3,038 overall). In two years, 328 members have “disappeared”. The most significant decrease this year is recorded in the elementary school of the second comprehensive and in those of the fifth, both of which record a decrease of 40 pupils. The school most affected by the drop in enrollment is Garzoni (Montessori) in via Ronchi, alone “loses” 43 enrollments.
THE MEDIUMS
Last year the enrollments in the city averages were on the increase (+41), this year instead they decreased by 48 units. 2,170 will be attending the seven middle schools in the city starting from September. The second comprehensive is also in this case affected by the most consistent decline: the Valussi of via Petrarca will have 42 fewer members. On the other hand, the largest middle school in the city is still expanding: there will be 26 more students at Manzoni; will reach 546.
THE NURSERY SCHOOLS
The offer for nursery schools will be 343 places, distributed among the nurseries managed directly by the Municipality and private individuals with agreements. Of these 302 places have already been assigned. The monthly rates depend on the time slot of the chosen nursery school and on the ISEE; they range from a minimum of 140 to a maximum of 624 euros.
