(ANSA) – BOLOGNA, 07 JUNE – Some activists of the environmental movement Extinction Rebellion have displayed a banner against the enlargement of the Passante di mezzo on the Torre degli Asinelli in Bologna. The blitz was carried out in the early afternoon: some smoke bombs were lit from the top of the tower and a black banner hung with the inscription: ‘No Passante, let’s act now’, and the date of 10 June to relaunch another initiative by protest.
The activists, who remained chained to the grates of the tower for a few minutes, explained in a statement that the Passante “represents the symbolic work of the indifference of local and national institutions to the climate-altering effects of territorial development policies. ” Extinction Rebellion requests that the Municipality and the Region fight for the suspension of the project and for the formulation of alternative strategies for the reduction of private traffic, which provide for the strengthening of public transport: the main measure for the reduction of emissions harmful to health and for the environment. “On June 10 – they write again – we will block the Passante di mezzo to underline once again the need for our community to take a completely different direction.” Carabinieri and local police intervened.
