CATANIA – Fourth paroxysmal phase on Etna from the night between 18 and 19 May, when the “Franco Battiato’s lava fountain” was recorded. The new activity is present once again from the South-East crater with spectacular lava fountains and ash emission, with a high cloud, which disperses in an East-North-East direction. The eruption is monitored by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology-Etneo Observatory (Ingv-Oe) of Catania.
The sources of the tremor are located near the South-East crater at a depth of about 2.8 kilometers above sea level. The new eruptive phase of the highest active volcano in Europe does not currently impact the operations of the Vincenzo Bellini international airport in Catania.
