Etna: three shocks in rapid succession, the strongest of magnitude 3.1

Three earthquakes were felt on Saturday evening in the towns of the eastern side of Etna, such as Giarre, Sant’Alfio, Mascali and Linguaglossa. The events were recorded by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (Ingv) of Catania. The earthquake of greatest energy, of magnitude 3.1, was detected at 8.13 pm. The other two, both of magnitude 2.2, at 20:10 and 20:20. The hypocenter was located 5 kilometers north-west of Sant’Alfio at depths between 5 and 8 kilometers. There is no damage to property or people. The epicenter just under 3 kilometers from Pietrafucile.
