[Epoch Times October 15, 2021](Epoch Times reporter Xia Yu comprehensive report) Friday (October 15), European Council President Charles Michel (Charles Michel) after the phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping Said that Europe and China will hold a summit soon.

Michelle said on Twitter: “In the EU-China relationship, despite differences, dialogue is still crucial.”

“Agree to hold an EU-China summit and strengthen our dialogue.” He wrote, but did not give a date for the summit.

Reuters reported that an EU official said: “During the call, the heads of state confirmed their intention to hold the next EU-China summit. They will also discuss holding meetings with all members of the European Council at a later stage.” He said. It is a separate summit with all 27 EU leaders.

“The EU believes that the sanctions imposed by (the CCP) on European policymakers are unreasonable and unacceptable. The EU will continue to seek a more balanced economic relationship.” EU officials told Reuters.

“Chairman Michele reviewed the EU’s concerns about the human rights situation in China.” An EU official said when talking about the phone call between Michel and Xi Jinping. He also said that the CCP’s recent military flights near Taiwan and the CCP’s controversial claims on the islands in the South China Sea are worrying.

CCTV reported that Xi Jinping conveyed a message to Michel that China and Europe need to resolve differences, strengthen strategic communication, and promote “healthy and stable” bilateral relations.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, Europe and China have not held any formal physical summits. The last EU-China meeting was a video conference on December 30, 2020.

Since the beginning of this year, as the international community continues to pay more attention to the CCP’s human rights violations in Xinjiang and Hong Kong, EU-China relations have experienced a cliff-like decline. The announcement of the EU to take action against Chinese (CCP) officials has triggered retaliatory sanctions by the CCP against European diplomats, members of the European Parliament and think tanks, as well as inciting Chinese domestic nationalism to boycott European companies. The “Comprehensive Agreement on Investment” (CAI) has since been frozen.

On Wednesday (October 13), German Chancellor Merkel and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a “Farewell” video meeting. The two sides discussed a number of topics including climate, the epidemic, the deadlocked EU-China investment agreement, and human rights. The official Chinese media Xinhua News Agency did not mention the two topics of the EU-China Investment Agreement and human rights.

The EU has also formulated its own strategy to increase its presence in the Indo-Pacific region against the CCP. The European Union published a joint communiqué on the EU’s cooperation strategy in the Indo-Pacific region on September 16. Taiwan has established deep trade and investment relations.

Josep Borrell, Vice President of the European Commission and the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, said, “Whether from a geoeconomic or geopolitical point of view, the world’s center of gravity is shifting to the Indo-Pacific region. The EU and Indo-Pacific The future of the region is interconnected. The European Union is already the largest investor, major development partner and one of the largest trading partners in the Indo-Pacific region. Our participation aims to maintain a free and open Indo-Pacific for all , While establishing strong and lasting partnerships to cooperate on matters ranging from green transformation, ocean governance or digital agendas to security and defense.”
