The territory is preparing to welcome the pilgrims of the relay race that left Canterbury in June, arriving in Rome in September

IVREA

Via Francigena-Road to Rome 2021, the European relay which started on 16 June from Canterbury to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the European Association of the Via Francigena paths, will cross the Canavese on Friday 6 and Saturday 7. In Canavese, in fact, there are the 47th and 48th stages of a journey that will culminate on 10 September in Rome and on 18 October in Santa Maria di Leuca, thus completing the 3,200 km that make up this historic route connecting England, France, Switzerland and Italy.

An event that will involve pilgrims, associations, mayors of the territory (for Ivrea the mayor Stefano Sertoli will participate in the first stage, while Carema, Settimo Vittone, Borgofranco, Cascinette, Burolo, Bollengo, Palazzo, Piverone have organized various institutional welcome moments on site) , and will involve anyone who simply wants to meet the delegation or follow it on the walk.

For the 47th stage we mean the 21 and a half km that connect Pont-Saint-Martin to Ivrea, scheduled for today, Friday, for the 48th stretch of Francigena between Ivrea and Viverone (another 20 km abundant). Like every stage, the two Canavese areas will also be traveled by pilgrims and wayfarers who, as with the Olympic torch, will pass the “staff”, the symbol of the pilgrim. From Pont-Saint-Martin we will leave today between 7.30 and 8 from the Hotel Carla. From there, on foot or by bicycle, the Via Francigena will lead to Carema, then Settimo Vittone (here a visit to the Pieve di San Lorenzo is planned in the presence of the mayor Sabrina Noro), a short stop at the Turna di Montestrutto; in the early afternoon stop at the Balmetti di Borgofranco to greet the mayor Fausto Francisca, and then on to Montalto, in front of the pilgrim’s monument where the mayor Renzo Galletto will instead welcome the walkers.

The arrival in Ivrea (hostel of the Canoa club) is expected around 4.30 pm, at 7 pm the greetings of the mayor Sertoli in the Golden Room, at 8 pm dinner at the General’s Piola. The Via Francigena Association of Sigerico, which has done so much in recent years to promote the Canavese stretch, will take part in the journey with the president Paolo Facchin, the same goes for Paola Lamborghini, contact person for Turismo Torino province. As for Saturday, meeting at 8 at the Monastero bakery, at 8.30 passage to the infopoint of the Via Francigena in Corso Botta, also in Ivrea, at 10.30 stop at the church of Santissimi Pietro e Paolo, in Bollengo. And away with the journey.

In Canavese, the Via Francigena has gone from 500 pilgrims in 2015 to over 5,000 today.
