The cultivation of “green gold” in the area began in the second half of the nineteenth century.

BRUSSELS – The European Commission has approved the application for the registration of «Pistachio di Raffadali» in the register of protected designations of origin (PDO).

The “Pistachio di Raffadali” is produced in the province of Agrigento.

“The very arid conditions of the region and the exposure of the plantations to the south and to the sun make it possible to obtain a fruit with particular qualitative characteristics, a sweet, pleasant and pronounced flavor and a high oil yield”, reads a note from the European Commission.

The cultivation of pistachio in the area began in the second half of the nineteenth century.
