Fake copyright investigation in Syracuse, the works were true: Sgarbi’s wrath

The art critic apologizes to the collector Massimo Carpi: “But magistrates, carabinieri and the prosecutor’s expert should do it”

The last four of the fourteen works that had been seized as part of the investigation into copyright fakes, carried out by the carabinieri of the cultural protection unit in Noto, were returned to collectors. The news was communicated by the collector Massimo Carpi to the art critic Vittorio Sgarbi, who took care to post a video message.

The works had been seized as part of the exhibition “The impossible is in Noto”, which was organized in 2019 by Sicilia Musei. The intervention of the judiciary was prompted by the complaint of the De Chirico Foundation which claims that the works of the master exhibited in Noto were false. The Public Prosecutor of Arezzo appointed the consultant Maria Grazia Picozzi to carry out the verification of the seized works, coming to the conclusion that some of the works on display were false.

The works, on the other hand, would be authentic, as always claimed by Sgarbi who in the video lashes out against the expert of the Syracusan magistrates whom he mistakenly calls Marcozzi, inviting the authorities to rely on more competent professionals.
