The body of the 71-year-old hiker from Tolmezzo (Udine), GA, who had not returned yesterday from an outing in the mountains, was found this morning, Wednesday 22 September. The alarm, given by the son, was triggered in the late afternoon yesterday and the searches, in which numerous rescuers from the Cnsas of the Cadore Center took part with their Friulian colleagues, were initially concentrated in the Forcella Scodavacca area. It was here that the man was headed, after leaving Forni di Sopra.

During the night the CNSAS teams patrolled the Belluno side, concentrating on the Tacca del Cridola area, the attack on the Cridola normal and Forcella Scodavacca itself.

After speaking with the manager of the Giaf Refuge, this morning the rescuers learned that the man, passing by, had told him he intended to head either towards the Tacca del Cridola or towards Cima Giaf. After embarking two rescuers from Forni di Sopra, the Friulian Civil Protection helicopter then carried out a reconnaissance above Cima Giaf and there the lifeless body was identified at the bottom of a canal.

Two rescuers from the Centro Cadore and two from the Sagf of Auronzo were then transported to the site for territorial jurisdiction. The man, who had risen from the normal, had chosen to abseil from a channel further west. At the origin of the fatal accident, the failure of an anchor, which caused it to fall for over 50 meters.

After being embarked, the body was then recovered with a 40-meter winch from the Suem di Pieve di Cadore helicopter, which transported it to the sports field of Domegge to entrust it to the hearse. In another rotation, the helicopter also transported rescuers downstream, while the rest of the teams returned to the Mauria Pass in the jeeps.
