Enough of rigid shifts, time-offs, permits and holidays pre-established well in advance. A company in the province of Treviso has decided to say goodbye to all this. “Once upon a time there was a card to stamp”. Once upon a time there were “the eight hours to live in the office with fixed hours five days a week”. Thus Velvet Media, a marketing and new media agency in Castelfranco Veneto presented its new work organization, based on the objectives to be achieved and no longer on the shifts to be covered.

In practice, workers will be able to choose whether to stay at home or go to the office, how many hours to work and especially when to take vacation. Without any risk of anarchy: the goal is to shift operations to specific objectives and not to the amount of hours of work per project. Employees are called upon to prioritize customer orders with even greater determination, but autonomously deciding at what times of the day to complete their work and where to do it with the office always open, even at dawn or late at night. Same question for holidays and leave: everyone can decide independently.
The experiment starts in May and will be valid until summer.

“It is difficult to give it a ‘legal’ definition, – explains Velvet Media in a note – because it is neither smart working nor remote working, it is not the management of project contracts and not even the temporary absence from the workplace required by Covid regulations”. The new approach was therefore defined as “MYWAY Work”, because it focuses on the employee’s self-management and its realization. “We are convinced that if a person is calm and comfortable in private, he will be able to perform better even in front of the computer. Bassel Bakdounes, owner of Velvet Media – Today there are a thousand innovative tools that allow us to stay in touch, monitor and consult each other, why shouldn’t we really use them? Perhaps the legislator did not realize that the world of work has changed. – he continues – We are confident in a total change, above all in mentality, which is okay to be promoted by entrepreneurs and companies but must be quickly supported also by adequate regulations “.
