Father and 13-year-old daughter saved by mountain rescue get lost in the dark on the path

The parent and the girl, both from Treviso, got lost on the Calà del Sasso, the path that leads from Valstagna to the Asiago plateau. To guide the rescuers the dog barked

TREVISO. A 52-year-old from Treviso and his 13-year-old daughter were saved last night by the men of the mountain rescue of Asiago and the Pedemontana del Grappa. In the late afternoon the man and the girl, after having reached Valstagna and finished the path of Calà del Sasso, the path of 4,444 steps that from Sasso, in the Asiago plateau, leads to Valstagna, had decided to retrace the path backwards and return to Sasso di Asiago (in the province of Vicenza) where their car was.

The reason is not known, perhaps thinking of a shortcut, at a certain point, father and daughter, with the dog in tow, deviated towards a side path, above Fontanelle, where they then got lost, getting stuck in an area of scrub mixed with dangerous rock jumps. After trying in vain to resume the road towards Calà del Sasso, with the darkness that was now falling in the area, the 52-year-old decided to sound the alarm via mobile phone to the mountain rescue.

Fortunately, despite the inaccessible area, the man found a point where the cell phone had range and raised the alarm shortly after 20. At that point, oneAsiago’s Cnsas team started from above, while five rescuers from the Pedemontana del Grappa – two with the quad – moved from the valley. Arriving at the Fontanelle locality, at about 450 meters above sea level, the rescuers then advanced into the homonymous valley, overcoming steep meadows and climbing on rocky stretches, until at 650 meters above sea level they heard the voices of father and daughter . More complicated to identify and reach them. To help the teams came their dog who started barking at the sight of the lights, guiding them faster to where father and daughter were stuck.

After having each equipped them with a harness, one at a time they were lowered in three stages for almost 200 meters. First the girl, then the dog tied to the rope with the harness and finally the father. Back on the Calà, father and daughter were guided to the road, from where they were taken back to Sasso to their car with an Asiago Alpine Rescue vehicle. The surgery lasted a total of five and a half hours and ended at 1.30am.
