Fight against fires: in Sicily the prevention campaign is triggered in advance

by admin

PALERMO – The fire-fighting campaign in Sicily will start next June 3. It is the main initiative for the prevention and contrast of forest fires and vegetation put in place by the Musumeci government, together with a series of agreements with local authorities and associations to make a common front against the attack of arsonists, says the Sicilian Region. “We have decided to bring forward the fire-fighting campaign on the island by almost two weeks – says the president of the Region, Nello Musumeci – to strengthen the activity to combat the fires, in a period in which the rise in temperatures and the criminal hand of the arsonists risk putting the green heritage of our territory at risk, as has happened in recent days ». This initiative is added to the memorandum of understanding signed by the regional councilor for the environment, Toto Cordaro, and by the president of Anci Sicilia, Leoluca Orlando, and to the one with the agricultural entrepreneurs who will become “custodians of the territory”.

“The philosophy of the 2021 fire season – says Cordaro – aims to put in place all the means available to counter this delinquent practice carried out by those who have no respect for the environment, devastating our territory. We have involved the farmers’ associations and now also Anci, so that all the mayors are involved, together with the Forestry Corps, the Fire Brigade, the central and territorial civil protection, in the best possible containment of the phenomenon ».
