More than 800 interventions carried out by the fire brigade teams in the last 24 hours for forest and vegetation fires: the largest number in Sicily, 250. Ten teams on the ground are currently engaged in Catania for various vegetation fires that are affecting even today the capital of Etna. Over 100 interventions carried out since yesterday. Interested are the areas of the Piana di Catania, where there are man-made areas with crops, on the Ionian coast the oasis of Simeto and Vaccarizzo, where at the moment the fires of the beaches and villages affected by the flames yesterday are undergoing reclamation and control. Extinguishing operations continue in the Catania hinterland, in the district of Passo Martino, Fossa Creta, via Palermo, Belpasso and Castel di Iudica.
60 firefighters with 20 vehicles engaged in the operations. The situation in the rest of Sicily is improving at the moment: in Palermo the firefighters are in action with two Canadair and a team deployed to protect the homes in Polizzi Generosa; in the Syracuse area, three teams are putting out three vegetation fires in Buscemi, Priolo and Noto; in the province of Messina a team is in action in Mandanici; in Enna there are four active fires: in Piazza Armerina, in Barrafranca, in Assoro and in Valguarnera, where the criticalities are greater and two ground teams and a Canadair are operating.
