First doses are falling again, the target of 90% of vaccinated people is further away

by admin

After a brief recovery close to October 15 (date of entry into force of the obligation to green pass at work) the first anti-Covid doses have returned to decline. And in the last week they have reached their lowest point, also due to the high level of vaccinations already achieved (82% of the population over 12 is vaccinated). In any case, the green pass effect seems to have been exhausted, or at least reduced. And the goal of 90% of immunized over 12s, identified by Commissioner Figliuolo in order to ease government restrictions, seems to be moving away. At the current pace, according to Lab24’s calculations, it would take 2 months. But if the trend of the first doses continues to decline it will take longer.

First doses down by 21%

According to Lab24 elaborations on official government data between 15 and 21 October the new doses administered (including single doses of J&J and single doses of those who previously contracted the infection) were 333 thousand compared to 421 thousand in the previous week (8- October 14) which had marked a mini-rebound of the first administrations (+ 6.4%). The decline was 21%, with the highest peaks in the 40-49 (-26.1%) and 50-59 (-25%) range.

Below 50 thousand a day

The daily average of new doses dropped below 50,000, compared to 60,000 in the previous week. And the trend in the last few days has been continuously declining. If we look only at the first doses of vaccines that require a second dose to conclude the vaccination cycle (i.e. Pfizer, Moderna and Astrazeneca), on Thursday 21 October there were 30 thousand: more than halved compared to the 75 thousand of Thursday 14 October (daily monthly peak at eve of the entry into force of the mandatory green pass at work). But also on Wednesday 20 there were 35 thousand (compared to 65 thousand on Wednesday 13), on Tuesday 19 October 39 thousand (against 58 thousand on Tuesday 12 October) and on Monday 18 October 48 thousand (compared to 58 thousand on Monday 11).

The rules for getting the green pass

The green certificate obtained with the vaccination becomes valid 15 days after the first administration. And it lasts a year after the second administration. In addition to the vaccination to obtain the green pass, there is a last possibility: that of using a tampon. With a warning and that is that in this case the green certificate is only valid for 48 hours, at least if it is obtained with the rapid antigen test that is done for example in a pharmacy and whose response arrives in 10 minutes (with a controlled price of 15 euros for adults and 8 euros for under 18). The molecular one – which needs 24 hours to be processed in the laboratory – is valid for 72 hours. The green pass is also obtained after healing from Covid. In this case it lasts six months.
