Iceclimber falls from the Cathedral to the Serrai di Sottoguda, Alpine rescue and helicopter intervene
ROCCA PIETORE. Around noon today, Saturday 22 January, the Val Pettorina Alpine Rescue was activated for a climber who had flown from an ice fall in the Serrai di Sottoguda. RO, 33, from Valle Aurina (BZ), had fallen from the Cathedral for about ten meters, reporting the suspected fracture of a leg, and was then lowered to the ground by his climbing partner.
A team of rescuers left aboard a quad and reached the iceclimber starting from the top, while another Cnsas team arrived on foot from the low entrance, to lend him first aid. The injured climber received first help from rescuers who stabilized the limb and covered the athlete with a thermal blanket while waiting for the helicopter rescue.
Arrived on the vertical, the Suem di Pieve di Cadore helicopter landed the crew’s Alpine Rescue technician in the deep gorge, with a 65-meter winch. The stretcher with the injured person was then recovered in the same way and the ambulance flew in the direction of the Belluno hospital.
