Football betting: rigged matches in Serie D, earthquake in the Sicilian group

Earthquake in sight in the Sicilian group of the Serie D championship. The Federal Prosecutor informed some companies of the southern group and many members after a series of investigations on alleged rigged matches. A 32-page dossier concerning the “Transmission of documents by the Public Prosecutor of Enna in relation to alleged sporting offenses carried out by members of companies participating in the 2019/2020 Serie D Championship (Group I)” would involve well-known personalities in the sports world: managers, coaches, footballers.

The companies involved include the names of Acireale, Troina, San Tommaso, Gela, Licata, Rotonda, Alcamo and Marsala. Federal prosecutor Giuseppe Chiné signed the notification of conclusion of the investigations on some “suspicious” matches that refer to the last competitive season but also to the previous ones. Competitions whose result would have been artfully rigged to favor winnings by subjects who wagered sums of money.

Among the races that would have been altered there are also Acireale – Troina 4-2 of 22 September 2019 and San Tommaso – Acireale 0-1 of 9 February 2020. The characters involved in Sicily and Calabria would be about thirty.
