The definition of the new Board of Directors of the Foundation for the Historical Carnival of Ivrea looks like a crazy mosaic: as soon as a piece seems to go into its place, here is another that risks blowing away. The three members that the mayor must select from the squad indicated by the council group leaders seem certain, only the official status is missing: they are the former aide-de-camp and organizer of canoe events Claudio Roviera, the Mugnaia 2020 Paola Gregorutti and Giuseppe Esposito (already active in the organization in the recent past). But, according to citizen rumors, what appeared to be the most obvious of the appointments, that of the president, seems to be under discussion, in the last few hours.

From the moment of the presentation of the candidacies (June 30), the chair seemed destined for Roberto Binaghi, Milanese manager, expert in marketing, communication and event organization. What happened that could make Binaghi return to a decision taken for granted? Probably the increasingly dense clouds that weigh on the 2022 edition of the Carnival, which in fact, would drastically reduce the time horizon available to him to work on the event: the mandate will end in any case the day after the 2023 edition, given that in that spring the Ivrea will return to the polls and a two-year mandate, almost certainly lame in one of the two editions, greatly limits the possibilities of the candidate president “in pectore”. Mayor Sertoli does not comment on the rumors: «I said that in the course of next week I will make the appointments and I confirm it. On the names that circulate and on any decisions taken or pondered by others, I do not express myself ».

Binaghi is reflecting and a definitive choice is expected shortly. If he were to take the “step back”, Piero Gillardi, the outgoing president, would almost certainly remain at the helm of the Foundation (the veto of the League remains on the third candidate, Franco Rosso, which has labeled him as “too communist”): comes absolutely new – comments Gillardi amazed -: in this last period I have worked to fulfill all the deadlines and pass the deliveries to my successor. Since June 30, when the nominations were announced, I assumed that the role would be assigned to Binaghi, so a different choice would surprise me a lot. Surely, no one in recent days has offered me the hypothesis of my confirmation. I realize that, with the increasingly persistent doubts about the 2022 edition, perplexities may arise on the part of those who should lead the event, especially for someone new to this experience “. Among so many doubts, the only certainty is the position of the Members, who are waiting to meet the new president and the other members of the Board of Directors before indicating the names that will represent them in the “button room” of the Carnival; the fourth member of the board of directors, in fact, is nominated by the Carnival actors’ associations and is not subject for approval by the mayor.
