“In this sequence Rosa, the protagonist, meets a prostitute who has just been attacked”, says in the video Francesco Costabile, director of A female. “This brings up the repressed trauma of the mother’s death.”

The film tells the story of Rosa, a rebellious girl who lives with her grandmother and uncle in a small town in Calabria. A trauma of her ties her to the mysterious death of her mother Cetta di lei, who died when she was a child. After a violent event, she manages to reconnect with that childhood memory and decides to discover the truth about her disappearance.

Francesco Costabile is an Italian director and screenwriter. A female is the first feature film he directs.
