From Aquila to Genoa, all the highlights of the upcoming administrative teams

The municipal next spring are approaching. But the coalitions are still at sea in view of the choice of their candidates. The big bang that followed the re-election of Sergio Mattarella at the Quirinale deepened the fractures within the center-right coalitions (Lega, Fdi, Fi and centrist allies) and the center-left (Pd, M5S, Leu and centrist allies). Not to mention the tensions within individual parties.

Where to vote

Just under a thousand municipalities will be called to vote. But the focus will be especially on the 23 provincial capitals: Alessandria, Asti, Belluno, Catanzaro, Como, Cuneo, Frosinone, Genoa, Gorizia, L’Aquila, La Spezia, Lodi, Lucca, Monza, Oristano, Padua, Palermo, Parma , Piacenza, Pistoia, Rieti, Taranto, Verona.
Of these, Genoa, L’Aquila, Palermo and Catanzaro are also the capital of the Regions. The date of the consultations has not yet been decided, but it could be May 22-23: not too close to summer but far enough away from the pandemic peaks.

The outgoing sides

Most of the outgoing administrations are center-right, 16 out of 23, while 5 are center-left and two represented by civic lists. Within the center-right, 3 municipalities have an outgoing mayor from the League, 3 from Fdi, 5 from Forza Italia, 2 are centrists (Courage Italy, Cambiamo!) 3 are independent center-right. In the center-left, 3 are Pd mayors and 2 independent center-left ones.

Genoa

The outgoing mayor, independent of the center-right, Marco Bucci is about to be reconfirmed by the entire outgoing center-right coalition, despite the tensions between the Lega and the Ligurian governor and leader of Cambiamo, Giovanni Toti. In the center-left, Italia Viva and Action broke with the Democratic Party, following the agreement made with the M5S for the candidacy of the lawyer Ariel Dello Strologo.

L’Aquila

The mayor of Fratelli d’Italia Pierluigi Biondi it should be reconfirmed by the entire center-right coalition. The centrosinsitra is still on the high seas: the Democratic Party has the option on the table Stefania Pezzopane, former president of the Province of L’Aquila and current senator who announced her decision to run for mayor of L’Aquila. The M5S have instead proposed to converge on Fabrizio Marinellifull professor of private law at the University of L’Aquila.
