The former unionist regional councilor is the only one acquitted by the appeals judges
Marco Sorbara, former regional and municipal councilor of Aosta, yesterday acquitted by the Turin Court of Appeal of the charge of external competition in mafia association “because the fact does not exist”, is back at liberty.
Sorbara (pictured in the Regional Council) is the only defendant in the Geenna trial on the ‘Ndrangheta in Valle d’Aosta acquitted on appeal. For all the other 15 accused, the judges confirmed the sentences sentenced in the first instance, modifying the penalties in some cases.
Among the first reactions to the acquittal is that of UV senator Albert Lanièce. «A hug to Marco Sorbara and his family for the acquittal. Was all this necessary? Does justice work well? », Comments the movement colleague of the former regional councilor. And then he adds: the sentence “of the Geenna trial keeps the heavy shadow of organized crime in the Aosta Valley, we are waiting for justice to finish its course”.
Union Valdôtaine also intervened after the sentence expressing “two conflicting sentiments: relief and anguish” and “solidarity” with Sorbara and his family. «First of all – adds the Mouvement – we are relieved at the news of his innocence, but we immediately think about how it is possible that an innocent person could have lived such a nightmare. We feel anguish even thinking of a justice that today we have difficulty understanding ».
