GEMONA. “The people of Friuli, composed and industrious, showed everyone how to react in the face of a tragedy.” The words of the commander of the Alpine Brigade Julia Fabio Majoli dictated the message of the 46th anniversary of the earthquake that struck Friuli in 1976.

Yesterday, a week earlier than May 6 due to the gathering of black feathers scheduled in Rimini next weekend, the victims belonging to the military corps, emergency forces and fighting associations were remembered.

The first appointment was at the Ana headquarters in via Scugjelârs where the president of the section Ivo Del Negro recalled the 16 members who died due to the earthquake, in the presence of the commanders of the Eighth Regiment David Colussi and the Third Regiment Francesco Suma.

Later, the laurel wreath was placed in front of the monument dedicated to the firefighters in via Praviolai in the presence of the provincial commander Giorgio Basile and the director of regional civil protection Amedeo Aristei.

And finally, the solemn mass at the Goi-Pantanali barracks which this year had as patron the commissioner Flavia Virilli, daughter of Giuseppina who worked so hard to remember the 29 soldiers who perished under the rubble in the military building in via Armentaressa: beyond General Majoli was attended by the gold medal for military valor Paola Del Din, the mayor Roberto Revelant and the regional councilors Riccardo Riccardi and Barbara Zilli.

“In those days, in 1976 – recalled Majoli – the Brigade, the firefighters, the police were linked with this territory trying to alleviate the suffering of the people”.

“Thanks Alpini – said the mayor Revelant -: you have not only removed your rubble then but also all the others and also thanks to you if today we can enjoy a reconstructed country”.

“The tragedy – said Vice President Riccardi – saw the Friulians as protagonists who today can claim the pride of having been responsible then, a responsibility that has allowed post-earthquake reconstruction”.

“The message that comes to us from the Friulians who faced the earthquake – commented the commissioner Zilli – is addressed to those who are the children of reconstruction and who must be even more guarantors of the future, taking up the values ​​that marked that era and that belong to our community “. The ceremonies for the anniversary of the earthquake resume on Friday 6 May with the mass in memory of the Fallen at 8 pm in the cathedral.
