Gentiloni: “Stop the stability pact also in 2022”

by admin

ROME. “We can’t get back to normal budgetary rules too soon. Aid will have to be gradually selective. Economic policies must remain supportive in 2021 and 2022: it is very likely that the stop to the Pact will continue in 2022 », underlined the European Commissioner for Economic Affairs, Paolo Gentiloni, speaking at the presentation of the report of the Confindustria Study Center. And he adds: «The Italian government is working hard to speed up the presentation of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. In the next few years it will be the time to heal social wounds but also the time for courage, which has never been lacking for Italian companies. Support must be made more and more selective and also be very careful to avoid extraordinary expenses which are not only authorized but are considered indispensable by the European Commission ”.

Sos banks

“We must avoid peak moments that could have financial consequences, even if fortunately the Italian banks are in stronger conditions than in the last decade – Gentiloni claims -. It will be necessary to work for a gradual exit from the support measures to avoid very dangerous peak moments both from a social and financial point of view ». The European Commissioner for Economic Affairs underlines the confidence in European action and the effectiveness of the resources and instruments put in place, starting from the Next generation Eu plan, but warns: “Woe to underestimate the gravity of the situation, the wounds that this situation leaves. In many countries, anti-Covid restrictive measures are still widespread, and they weigh heavily ».

Differences

According to Gentiloni, a theme to be addressed is that of «the difference in the continuation of this crisis according to the different sectors. Some have swept during the crisis, others have recovered with a certain speed like industrial manufacturing and immediately after the construction, others like textiles are in a more difficult situation. And in services, some sectors have recovered quickly, others are in a dramatic situation. There are enormous differences, and not only between productive sectors: there is a risk of marked divergence between countries. Common European tools have been activated precisely to address this risk. And also with a spirit of solidarity ».
