IVREA. The big canoe is back in town. The stadium will host a national junior and senior slalom competition on Saturday 28 August and the Italian senior slalom championship and the senior Italian extreme slalom championship on Sunday 29 August. The sporting event, organized by the Ivrea canoe club, will take place respecting the competition protocol of the Italian canoe kayak federation in force and for this reason, also on this occasion, as already happened for the Europeans at the beginning of May, the competitions will be behind closed doors. : «We will strictly follow what is indicated by the Federation – says Mario Di Stazio, president of Ivrea canoa club -. I can say that, compared to the European championships in May, the park will not be totally closed. The walkway will remain off-limits. From the organizational point of view, based on our many years of experience, we are, touching iron, calm. However, we must never let our guard down, especially in this period, where pitfalls lurk around the corner ».
As for the purely sporting event, all the big names at national level will be present in the water. Some of them are already in Ivrea and have been training for days. «As Ivrea canoa club – adds Di Stazio – we will be present with our young people. Surely our group will be the largest at the starting line and I expect some good satisfaction at the end. We are a company that is investing a lot both in economic terms and in men towards our boys. We are sowing well and now all that remains is to harvest ».
For the city, an important event on the outdoor sports front, one of the sectors where the Canavese has many cards to play. Elisabetta Piccoli, deputy mayor: «I would underline the impact on the territory, which on the occasion brings about a hundred athletes to Ivrea, in addition to the staff following the race. The importance of maintaining the event, in a moment of difficulty like this, continues to give prestige to the stadium, to the organization and to our city. Our stadium, with unique characteristics in the world, will also be a worthy setting on this occasion for the assignment of the tricolor titles. It is no coincidence that several athletes of the Italian national team, over time, considering that Ivrea is a federal center, have also bought or rented a house in the city and moved to live here. The canoe stadium is an excellence and must also be part of a “package” of tourist and sporting offers of our territory aimed at an ever wider audience that we must know how to attract and retain ». Mayor Stefano Sertoli, who kept the delegation to Sport for himself, observes: «The upcoming Italian championships of the weekend are a new occasion of great pride and prestige for the Ivrea canoa club and all the movement that revolves around it. The great success, at a technical and organizational level, albeit in full pandemic of the recent European championships, are yet another demonstration of the level reached, and recognized by all, of the Ivrea competition field, a guarantee for the excellent success of the next absolute. My heartfelt good luck goes to the organizers and to all our paddlers ».
