TREVISO. Green pass, the first “rebel” mayors appear in Paese and Santa Lucia di Piave. Katia Uberti and Riccardo Szumski have announced that they will not ask the local police for any checks on the application of the Green pass where required (bar, restaurant, gyms, events …). Also in Spresiano the mayor Marco Della Pietra throws in the towel at the start: “It is impossible to guarantee the checks we are asked for.”
The “no” front
It was the mayor of the town, Katia Uberti, the first to rebel against the rules on the health passport: “We cannot be sheriffs for the managers of indoor bars and restaurants, or of gyms, swimming pools and sports facilities” writes Uberti, “the” health passport ”to events or situations of great turnout undoubtedly has a logic, but the fact that managers can be sanctioned if they fail to verify effectively does not seem to me the right way. The controls are not easy to apply and could give rise to possible tensions with the public ».
In Santa Lucia, Szumski thinks the same way: «Green pass? Let’s talk about confidential health information, I would put the fighters in difficulty if I asked them to verify it. It’s nonsense: when seated you need the Green pass, at the counter you don’t. Whoever sits down will stay together somewhere else, Green pass or not. It is a rule without scientificity and common sense. Do they want to close the restaurateurs? I put myself in their shoes. How do the gendarmes do it? And why should we sanction them? War has been declared on a type of activity that had worked hard to enforce the rules.
The Spresiano case
Marco Della Pietra, mayor of Spresiano, is not opposed to the certificate itself, but has serious doubts about its application: «I understand my colleague from the country, we do not have the tools to carry out checks of this kind. They told us that an app will come for the controls, I imagine what could happen to an event with two hundred people whose identity documents must also be crossed. It is unthinkable, so many events are likely to skip. And then it could have been organized with a little more notice, instead of telling us two weeks before the entry into force, between the summer holidays ».
“We need responsibility”
There are many different points of view between mayors, even within the League. Claudia Benedos, from Maser, had made headlines when she went to lunch at the restaurant open in the middle of the red zone. «I was in solidarity with the restaurateurs, because while respecting the rules they had them closed» he explains today, «I agree with the decree on the Green pass and I agree on enforcing the rules. My philosophy is the same as it was then: those who respect the rules work. The Delta variant scares us, even in Maser the virus has reappeared, we must be careful not to close again ».
Not even Stefano Marcon, mayor of Castelfranco and president of the province, feels like being a “rebel”: «Of course, it won’t be a morbid control, but the rules must be respected, let’s not forget that we are still in a delicate phase. I refer to the responsibility of managers and customers, and I know that they will do things as well as ever ». And Marco Serena, mayor of Villorba, recalls the (winning) Berlin experiment: «There you need a QR code, given after a negative swab, to get into many activities. An ante litteram Green pass.
