Hail bullets, damage in the province of Pordenone

Wind, rain and bombardment of grains: flooded houses, cellars and the Marcolin in Pordenone, devastation at Podere dell’Angelo

PORDENONE. Hailstones as big as walnuts, wind and rain. Last night in a few minutes the Destra Tagliamento went from the oppressive heat to the most classic of summer showers, with the aggravating circumstance of the hail that caused various damage to tents, cars, roofs. More than forty calls to the firefighters of Pordenone who had to divide between felled trees and flooded cellars.

The disturbance – two distinct cells, one of which is particularly intense – came from nearby Veneto.

After crossing the border, it beat the Pordenone area to the ground, also breaking down in the city and concentrating in particular in the southern area. In addition to Pordenone, the municipalities of Roveredo in Piano, Porcia, Cordenons, Pasiano, Brugnera, Zoppola, Fiume Veneto and Cordovado were particularly affected.

The first signs of the storm cell around 6 pm: while it was hailing in Roveredo in Piano, the sun was still shining in Pordenone. Around 20.30 a copious hailstorm hit the city. Grains the size of a walnut have caused various damage to marquees and gazebos. At the Podere dell’Angelo restaurant, in Pasiano, the strong wind overturned the outdoor furniture and shattered the window panes.

In the city, several trees were felled and the rain, which fell abundantly within a few minutes, flooded the first lanes of the Marcolin car park. The water also struggled to drain into via Cossetti, towards via XX Settembre. Along the Pontebbana, near via Maestra Vecchia, there was no light for a few minutes.

The Civil Protection of Pordenone, together with the local police, immediately set in motion. The commissioner Emanuele Loperfido brought together the Municipal Operations Center coordinating the operations: flooding was recorded in the underpass of via Manzoni and in via Valle in Vallenoncello, as well as several houses with basements submerged by water. In via San Giuliano it was necessary to intervene with the fire engine. In the area above the city, the hail has clogged the drains and the regurgitation of the sewer system has also taken place.

Several calls also to the fire brigade, committed to damaged roofs (in Pordenone and Prata), flooding and fallen plants.
