Hailing in the Marca: whitewashed Asolo, vineyards decayed for the second time in a week

Bad weather returns to hit the Alta Marca: hail on the vineyards between Valdobbiadene and Vittorio Veneto. The historic center of Asolo and the surrounding hills were also lashed by the atmospheric event

ASOLO. Another spring hailstorm has transformed the landscape of the Treviso foothills. At 16.30 today, Wednesday 19 May, a barrage of ice grains also hit the historic center of Asolo.

To immortalize the image of the whitewashed village (above) was the mayor Mauro Migliorini, who could only comment with concern: “In the next few hours we will understand the extent of the damage to the agricultural sector”.

The images of the centers of the Marca with the whitewashed streets, covered by a white blanket of ice, thus return to feed the fears on the front of wine production and agriculture.

The wave of bad weather that is repeatedly hitting the Brand is of great concern to producers. Yesterday the heroic vineyards of the Unesco hills, in the upper Marca from Valdobbiadene to Vittorio Veneto, had to deal with the second hailstorm within a few days.

An even more violent episode was in fact recorded even less than a week ago, Friday 14 May, with a hailstorm that hit both Castelfranco and the municipality of Vidor.

On that occasion, the president of the Region Luca Zaia had announced the start of procedures for requesting a state of crisis, inviting municipalities and individuals to quantify the extent of the damage.

Today, Wednesday 19 May, with the landscapes of flooded streets (in the municipality of Cappella Maggiore), whitewashed historic centers (as in the case of Asolo, which also gives its name to another DOCG) and “winter” roads once again underlines the impact of the ungovernable weather.
