Haley achieves first victory in Washington DC election

Republican candidate Nikki Haley claimed her first victory in the 2024 election by emerging victorious in the Republican primary elections in Washington DC, known as the District of Columbia.

Haley’s triumph temporarily interrupts Donald Trump’s winning streak in GOP races, although the former President is expected to gain several hundred more delegates in the upcoming Super Tuesday races this week.

Despite facing early setbacks, Haley has pledged to remain in the race until those elections, although she has refrained from singling out any specific primary where she feels confident of securing a win.

Following a defeat in her home state of South Carolina, Haley has remained resolute in her belief that voters in upcoming contests deserve an alternative to Trump, despite his strong performance in the campaign thus far.

Declared the winner by the Associated Press on Sunday night, Haley’s victory comes as Washington DC is predominantly Democratic, with approximately 23,000 registered Republicans in the city. In the 2020 general election, Democrat Joe Biden secured 92 percent of the vote in the district.

Haley’s win in Washington DC marks a significant milestone in her campaign, positioning her as a viable contender in the race for the Republican nomination.
