Two years and 10 months for forcibly stealing the house keys from a Treviso woman in a wheelchair in Piazza Sant’Andrea

TREVISO. Two years and 10 months for forcibly stealing the house keys from a disabled woman, causing her to fall to the ground. The Romanian Nicu Marius Cret, 31, was to answer for robbery and aggravated personal injury and was eventually found guilty by judge Marco Biagetti.

the aggression in the square

The facts date back to June 2, 2018 when the woman, a 49-year-old woman from Treviso, who lives in the area, crosses the young Romanian in Piazza Sant’Andrea, who apparently wanted to urinate in a street corner. The two know each other by sight and talk for a long time. She invites him to change his way and way of life. Conversation never reaches exasperated tones.

Until, suddenly, the young Rumanian, a face already known to the police, with a sudden movement, snatches from the woman, in a wheelchair, the keys to the house she was carrying around her neck, yanking her and making her fall to the ground. With the keys he runs away. In the meantime, the woman is rescued by a passer-by who also calls the 118 ambulance. She is hospitalized and discharged a few hours later with a 10-day recovery prognosis for “polycontusions from trauma”.

the house upside down

Meanwhile, when she returns home, the woman finds her home upside down. They are the traces of intrusion of someone who has tried to find something valuable but eventually leaves with nothing. The rush of not being discovered was fatal to those who entered. There are no signs of forced entry on the front door. Was it Cret who had come in thanks to the keys he had taken from the woman? There is no evidence. In fact, the deputy public prosecutor Massimo De Bortoli, who is dealing with the case, challenges Cret only with the allegations of personal injury and aggravated robbery, for having committed it on a person who is 75 per cent disabled with evident walking problems, due to a brain aneurysm. Justice presented its bill at Cret. Her lawyer requested and obtained the abbreviated procedure while the disabled woman filed a civil action with the lawyer Luigi Torrisi.

the process

During the discussion, the prosecutor Massimo De Bortoli retraced the story, reconstructing it according to police investigations and at the end of the indictment he asked for the Romanian accused to be sentenced to 3 years. The defense, on the other hand, made a reconstruction opposite to the prosecutor’s office, focusing on the type of acquaintance between the disabled woman and the young accused.

In the end, judge Biagetti sentenced the accused to two years and ten months and to the compensation of an immediately executive provisional of a few thousand euros.
