MAJANO. He had reached the island of Banco d’Orio by boat to spend an afternoon of leisure with his wife. It was just after 4 pm when Pier Paolo Morello, 65 years old last June 29, resident in Majano but originally from Casarsa della Delizia, felt ill. He had just stepped off the boat. The first to call for help and provide help was a woman living in Gradisca d’Isonzo, Isabella Beltramini, who was on the island with her husband and daughters. «Signor Morello had recently arrived at Banco d’Orio with his wife and his little dog. I had just seen him get off the boat. On the way to the beach he felt ill. I yelled at my husband to call for help immediately. We dragged him out of the water and since I attended a first aid course, with the help of health workers on the phone, I carried out a heart massage while waiting for help to arrive ».

The 118 health workers promptly intervened on the spot, transported to Banco d’Orio aboard a vehicle of the fire brigade, the staff of the Coast Guard of Grado, who coordinated the entire intervention, and the carabinieri, who rebuilt the happened. The attempts to save the life of the sixty-five-year-old Friulian, who died on the spot, were useless. The Sores di Palmanova plant had also sent the helicopter rescue, then returned. Morello’s body was transported to the Torpedo Pier with a fire brigade vehicle and subsequently transferred to the mortuary chapel of the Valle Le Cove cemetery. The magistrate on duty at the Prosecutor’s Office of Gorizia was informed about the incident.
