He took the blame for a fatal accident in Giardini Naxos but there was another at the wheel

MESSINA – He ran over with his car and killed a 19-year-old boy who was traveling on a scooter with his girlfriend. In agreement with the friends who were with him in the car, he lied, claiming that there was another driver who, also out of fear, agreed to take the blame for the dramatic accident. Until he revealed everything to the carabinieri, allowing the investigators to reconstruct the dramatic accident and arrest the real responsible, the 26-year-old AC of Piedimonte Etneo, convicted for road murder, injuries and slander. The provision, issued by the investigating judge of Messina at the request of the Public Prosecutor led by Maurizio de Lucia, was born from the investigations of the Radiomobile Aliquota of the Operating Unit of the Taormina Company after a road accident that occurred in June 2020 in Giardini Naxos in which a young man of 19 died. years and his girlfriend, then a minor, was seriously injured. The victim, who was driving the scooter with the girl on board, collided with the rear side of a car which, in the same direction of travel, had suddenly turned left. Due to the violent impact, the boy lost control of the scooter, while the car collided with the corner of a house. The young man, rushed to the S. Vincenzo hospital in Taormina, died shortly after, while his girlfriend hospitalized in a reserved prognosis for more than 30 days for the various injuries suffered to the legs and organs managed to get away with it. The 23-year-old who reported driving the car – his words were confirmed by the others in the party – was being investigated for road homicide and road injuries. From the video surveillance images acquired it was evident that the car was proceeding at high speed two-way and that it had made a sharp maneuver to turn left without operating the arrow.

In December last year the twist: the boy under investigation revealed that on the day of the accident he was not driving the car. The investigations, opened after the revelation, made it possible to ascertain that the young man arrested today was actually behind the wheel. The five friends had told the false after having agreed because the suspect was the only one not to have taken alcohol and drugs. The boys, originally from Piedimonte Etneo, had spent an evening in Giardini Naxos that day, attending various clubs and well-known drugstore squares. In particular, it would have been the 26-year-old, already known to the police despite his young age, to convince the other passengers to lie. AC did not show any form of rethinking, continuing to deny their responsibilities and threatening others if they spoke. To one he would have announced a punitive expedition against him, for the sole fact of having slightly changed the version supplied to the carabinieri. The investigations also revealed further details on the dynamics of the event: the driver would even have seen the bike arrive from the rearview mirror and despite this he would have turned left. The arrested person faces a sentence of up to 18 years, while the other three passengers are, on the other hand, under investigation for the crimes of slander and personal aiding and abetting. Another detail that emerges from the investigation is the one that always concerns the group of friends: the young people took selfies in the police station before being questioned. To immortalize them were the cameras of the barracks.
