The two were in the same club with friends, but they had never seen each other before. After the verbal violence, the 52-year-old hit the young man in the face with a glass

BRIDGE IN THE ALPS. An evening of increasingly pressing homophobic insults that resulted in physical aggression that aroused the indignation of all present. The trial of an almost 52-year-old woman, Tamara Maraga, accused of injuries also aggravated by homophobia against a young man, opened yesterday. It was the eve of the 2018 Befana and a DJ set was held in a venue in Ponte nelle Alpi, which attracted several people. The defendant was present with a group of friends and the offended party was spending the evening with two friends. The two had never seen each other and few knew the woman who, despite being a native of the area, has long since moved.

Yesterday morning, in court, the first called to tell what happened was the young man, who appeared as a civil party assisted by the lawyer Alberto Fascina. It was almost one in the morning when the woman, for no reason but visibly altered, got into a fight with the young man asking him “are you a fagot?”. He, amazed by the stranger’s behavior, replied “yes, but what do you care?”.

From that moment on, the woman never stopped ranting with phrases like “shit fag” and “you are a fucking gay”, getting closer and closer to the boy, while her friends held her back to prevent the aggression also became physical. The music wasn’t loud and everyone in the club, which isn’t very big, started hearing those insults and understanding that something unpleasant was happening. The boy spilled some beer he was holding in his hand, wetting the woman, who at that point threw a glass at him hitting him in the face.

Yesterday also several patrons present that evening testified. Everyone recognized the defendant among the photos shown by the prosecutor as the one responsible for the attack, first verbal and then physical, and all told of the discomfort felt towards that woman who seemed irrepressible even by her friends, who also tried to prevent it from degenerating.

According to the witnesses, after the first exchange of words, the boy tried to get away from the woman who, however, continued to approach and insult him with homophobic phrases. Some saw the glass being thrown in the boy’s face, others turned immediately after, seeing the young man with his hands on his bloody face and the shards on the ground. The young man was then accompanied to the emergency room to be medicated, with a prognosis of 5 days, but also a strong state of shock. “I have never felt so humiliated,” said the boy and at the time the fact was reposted on social media by the deputy Alessandro Zan, author of the bill against homotransphobia which is being discussed in recent weeks.

The trial will continue on December 7 to hear the defendant and defense witnesses.
