Hundred-episode micro-records·red archives|Why did Mao Zedong ask the whole party to study “Jiashen Three Hundred Years Memorial” 77 years ago
In 1944, the year of Jiashen in the lunar calendar, the 52-year-old historian Guo Moruo wrote a historian of nearly 20,000 words “Jiashen Three Hundred Years”. Relying on a large amount of historical data, the article analyzes how Li Zicheng failed in just over 40 days due to his pride and slack.
On March 19, “Jiashen Three Hundred Years Ceremony” began to be continuously published in the supplement of Chongqing Xinhua Daily. One stone stirred up a thousand waves. The statement in the article was deemed by the Kuomintang reactionary government to “insinuate the authorities,” and immediately organized a special person to write an editorial to siege and censure; while Mao Zedong, who was in the Yan’an cave dwelling, read another warning and deep meaning from it. He requested that the article “Jiashen Three Hundred Years Ceremony” be reproduced in its entirety in the “Liberation Daily” and printed as a separate copy. Subsequently, the article was also issued as a rectification document for the whole party to study, reminding party members and cadres that “must always maintain a sober and learning attitude, and must not get lost in the head, forget what happened, and repeat the mistakes of Li Zicheng.”
On March 23, 1949, Mao Zedong led the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the People’s Liberation Army headquarters to leave Xibaipo and set off for Peiping. Before departure, Mao Zedong said with a smile that this was “coming to Beijing to rush for the exam.” He also added: “We will never be Li Zicheng. We all hope to get good results in the exam.”
Time is proof. In this test of “Improper Li Zicheng”, the Chinese Communist Party led the people to create a brand-new country and handed in a commendable answer. The spirit of “rushing to the exam” derived from this is still being passed on and developed over time. “The times are the people who write the papers, we are the responders, and the people are the people who read the papers.” On the way to the test, the Chinese Communists are not complacent because of their merits, and they are not slack because of stability.
