Hundreds of appeals against the result of the Iraqi vote – Zuhair al Jezairy

by admin

The number of appeals against the results of the last elections in Iraq has reached 379. The defeated, mostly parties linked to the pro-Iranian militias, have raised the level of tension by organizing protests in the green zone of Baghdad, near the buildings of the prime minister. and threatening further moves if the votes are not recounted by hand. Other formations are calling for the cancellation of the elections because they accuse the United Arab Emirates of being responsible for the “electoral fraud”.

“They are all pressures to join the next government,” Moqtada al Sadr tweeted. “All parties have returned to the rhetoric of 2005, and are calling for the formation of alliances on a sectarian basis.”

A source in the Rule of Law coalition, led by former Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki, revealed that Shiite party leaders will likely hold a summit in the holy city of Najaf under the leadership of a representative of Ayatollah Ali al Sistani. This is the only move, the source explains, to avoid a civil war between the Shiites.

On the other hand, an opposition coalition made up of Arab and Kurdish parties is beginning to take shape, which controls about thirty seats, which could be joined by representatives of the groups that boycotted the elections.

It is the largest opposition front in Iraq since 2003.
